Katherine Erlich, M.D. is a pediatrician in Oakland County, Michigan. She is dedicated to integrating treatments that use natural methods to stimulate healing, recover balance, and support the body’s own resilience.

Her holistic approach emphasizes the necessity of looking at the whole person— the body, mind, and environment—rather than at an isolated function, organ or symptom, with the ultimate goal being to correct the underlying cause of illness rather than just treat the symptoms.

Dr. Erlich promotes the use of a wide range of health practices and therapies, with conventional medicine being just one part of many available modalities.

My Philosophy

Children are far more sensitive to their environment than adults. I see children as our canaries in a mine. However, unlike canaries, children have amazing resilience.

The sooner that we become aware, remove the toxins, and provide our children with the necessary tools required by their bodies, the quicker they will heal.  And our children will heal – some sooner than others and some will show more improvement than others.  We must not scold ourselves for lack of awareness.  Rather, we must move forward and make each day the best it can be.

I believe that knowledge is empowering. The more educated you become, the more empowered you will be, and the less you will need my guidance.

I see parents as my partners, with the same ultimate goal of helping their children to be as healthy, resilient, and as well balanced as possible.  So, I recommend you learn – through reading books, articles, the Internet, hearing lectures, and watching documentaries.  This website is a good place to find suggestions.

The more you know, the more comfortable you will be helping your child yourself.

Credentials

Katherine Erlich, M.D. is a pediatrican who completed her pediatric residency at William Beaumont Hospital in 1998.  She practiced conventional pediatrics in Oakland County for 11 years before opening Healing the Whole Child. Over the years, she welcomed newborn babies into the world and treated sick children at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Providence Hosptial in Southfield and Novi, Henry Ford Hospital, Huron Valley Hospital, and Sinai-Grace Hospital.

Dr. Erlich received her medical degree at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, however remains a U of M fan as she received her undergraduate B.S. degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

In June 2009, Dr. Erlich said good-bye to her large conventional pediatric practice in Bingham Farms, Michigan and, in October 2009, she resumed caring for patients through Healing the Whole Child, PLLC.

From 2009 until 2020, she so appreciated working at the Center for Holistic Medicine with Drs. Brownstein, Ng and Nusbaum. CHM was a wonderful location to practice, learn, and have the comradery and guidance of other like-minded, BRAVE, compassionate, out of the box-thinking doctors, as well as the other supportive and loving staff.  However, due to Covid-19, it became increasingly difficult to continue to see patients there, as a busy office, full of older, often sick adults, is no place for children who are often not able to consistently wear masks and maintain appropriate social distancing. So, starting in July 2020, Dr. Erlich is seeing patients only from her Franklin office.

Dr. Erlich has a passion for trying to understand why people get sick and for learning how to help children truly be well, not just how to suppress symptoms. Consequently Dr. Erlich has focused on learning ways to prevent illness and help to support our bodies’ innate ability to heal.

With regards to integrative medicine, Dr. Erlich does not claim to be an expert. She is not a homeopath or a naturopath.  Rather, Dr. Erlich is a pediatrician who truly cares for her patients and wants the best for them. She has studied integrative medicine through attending lectures, reading multiple books, listening to interviews and lectures, reviewing journals, and learning from local holistic doctors. Dr. Erlich is excited to continue to learn more every day.

“The learners shall inherit the Earth, while the learned will be beautifully equipped to live in a world that no longer exists.”
